Being a work at home mom can be challenging at times. With so many strings being pulled different directions (hello mom life, home life, AND work life–all from home!), it is easy to fall into a rut sometimes.
Here are 5 ways to get out of the work at home mom rut, and balance your days a bit better!
- Create a Beautiful Workspace.
I am so guilty of working from my couch (or my bed), and I find that the days I choose to do this, it is harder for me to switch out of “work mode” and back into “mom mode”
Having your own workspace can help tremendously, even if it is just a desk in the corner of the room. Add a few fun desk accessories (am I the only one obsessed with pens? Tell me I’m not!), and you are good to go! - Create Work Hours – and Stick to Them!
Working from home is so amazing because it allows us to stay home with our babies! In the same breath– Work is always there. It’s easy to blur the line a bit and work whenever. But, I have found that creating a schedule helps to keep the burn out at bay. - Set Limits
It is super easy to want to work every hour that your kids are asleep– But, try to resist that urge. You need alone time in order to refresh, so be sure you are scheduling that in. It is okay to not reply to an email immediately (unless that is part of your job, of course), and it’s okay to set boundaries around work and real life.
- Take Notes
Notes are so important during meetings or client briefs because they allow us to leave our work when it’s time to be in “mommy mode”. Great notes will allow you to seamlessly switch between the two, and help prevent you from feeling like you need to remember alllll the things aaall the time. - Enlist Help
Of course, there are times when we just need some extra help to get it all done. It is perfectly okay to hire a babysitter, or to hire someone else for your team. You don’t have to do it all, mama.
What do you think? Would you add anything to the list? I would love to hear things that have helped you steer clear of the dreaded Work at Home Mom rut.
